Is Tim Tebow the answer for the Denver Broncos at quarterback?

The Tim Tebow debate still rages on in the Mile High City as the Denver Broncos faithful continue to praise their new starting quarterback while the current coaching staff only seems to get more frustrated with their second-year quarterback they inherited from former head coach Josh McDaniels. There is no question that Tebow is a talented football player that appears to give the Broncos the best chance to win football games week in and week out, but the former Heisman trophy winner really struggles to become the kind of passing quarterback that is successful on the NFL level.

Over the last three weeks, Tim Tebow has arguably become the most talked about starting quarterback in the NFL. Unfortunately, Tebow has become a popular topic for all the wrong reasons from “Tebowing” to the fact that many people believe he will never be able to hack it as an NFL quarterback.

Despite the heavy criticized that new head coach John Fox and company seem to face on a weekly basis due to the struggles of Tim Tebow adjusting to the NFL game, the Denver Broncos have stuck by their second-year quarterback and made him the starter for the last two weeks against the Miami Dolphins and the Detroit Lions.

Last week the Denver Broncos officially made Tim Tebow their starting quarterback against arguably the worst team in the league in the Miami Dolphins. With the Dolphins failing to win even one game this season, making Tebow the starter was a no-brainer as it would prove to head coach John Fox whether or not this former Florida Gator star had what it takes, but in the first three quarters Tebow’s play was awful to say the least as he failed to lead the team on even one scoring drive.

Even though Tebow’s performance was forgettable in the first three quarters, the struggling starter was able to eventually lead the team to victory with a brilliant fourth quarter performance that locked up the starting job for Tebow for Week 8 against the Detroit Lions.

Denver Broncos big question

Tim Tebow may have convinced John Fox that he was the right man for the job after his fourth quarter performance against the Miami Dolphins, but the Detroit Lions were another beast entirely as Matthew Stafford and company were desperate for a win after losing two straight against the San Francisco 49ers and the Atlanta Falcons. With Ndamukong Suh and the Lions’ defense prepared to get back on track, Tebow was in trouble from the snap to the final whistle as the former Florida quarterback just couldn’t compete.

The Detroit Lions eventually went on to dominate the Denver Broncos on their home field in the Mile High City by a score of 45-10. Tim Tebow finished with 172 passing yards and 63 rushing yards while only throwing one touchdown pass to wide receiver Eric Decker with 8:49 left in the fourth quarter. Those numbers put up by Tebow aren’t awful, but his accuracy was as he just completed 18 of 39 passes with a passer rating of 56.8.

The performance may have been pretty awful in terms of accuracy, but head coach John Fox appears to still have faith in his starting quarterback as he has said that he will stick with Tim Tebow as his starter for Week 9 against the division rival Oakland Raiders, but I won’t be surprised to see a change if he struggles.
