Denver Broncos lose Pro Bowl linebacker Elvis Dumervil to torn pectoral muscle
The Denver Broncos are one of the most storied franchises in the NFL, but even though they were once considered the best team in the league with John Elway under center, the Broncos have really struggled to find their way during the post Elway era in the Mile High city.
Last season the team went through the beginning of an extensive rebuilding process as they traded away Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler and fired long-time head coach Mike Shanahan. Even though these moves were highly criticized and were thought to turn the Broncos into one of the worst teams in the AFC Conference, first-time head coach Josh McDaniels did quite well in his first season at the helm for the Denver Broncos as they won the first six games of the season.

Even though the season ended without an appearance in the playoffs despite winning the first six games of the season, the Denver Broncos had plenty of things going for them moving forward as they saw one of their defensive players turn into a Pro Bowler and one of the best players at his position in the NFL.
Heading into last season, many people believed that the Broncos would struggle on both sides of the football, but their play on the defense was what concerned them the most as they were just awful in the previous season.
Fortunately, that wasn’t the case as they saw their outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil become a serious force to be reckoned with as he led the league with 17 sacks. Not only did Dumervil make a name for himself last year, but he also convinced the Denver Broncos brass to sign him to an unprecedented contract extension worth $61.5 million dollars over the next five years with $43.168 million being guaranteed money over that time period.
Despite becoming one of the richest linebackers in the NFL last month and the Denver Broncos most prized possession on the defensive side of the football next to Champ Bailey, the Pro Bowl linebacker went down in training camp recently with a torn pectoral muscle which will keep him out the majority of next season.

The Denver Broncos are saying that that Elvis Dumervil will most likely miss up to four months. This will be a major blow the Broncos defense to say the least as Denver will now have to look to unproven backups in Jarvis Moss and Robert Ayers to share time at his position.
Needless to say, next season will be rough for the Denver Broncos as they will somehow have to deal with missing their best defensive player and move on. Not only has the defense taken a hit during training camp, but the offense will also be missing some key players at the running back position in Knowshon Moreno, Correll Buckhalter and the recently signed LenDale White. All these running backs have gone down with injury and will be questionable at best for the start of the season.
