Tim Tebow Shows Why He Was the Second QB Drafted
Tim Tebow made his long awaited debut against the Cincinnatti Bengals on Sunday. Hype surrounding the rookie overshadowed the diva-receiver pairing of Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco. It’s amazing to some and preposterous to many that Tebow, a third-string QB in the NFL, is capable of generating this kind of buzz. NFL fans have caught Tebow fever evidenced by the former Florida Gator’s jersey to be the best selling in the league since the time he was drafted.

Tebow completed 8 of 13 passes with no interceptions and one rushing touchdown. He could’ve easily chalked up one passing touchdown if not for Matthew Willis’ drop at the Bengals’ 20-yard line.
Denver’s number two QB, Brady Quinn, played like he did in Cleveland — sloppy, wild throws and problems reading defenses and holding on to the ball. Quinn completed just six of his 16 attempts including one interception that was returned for a touchdown. Coach Josh McDaniels expects this guy to be the number two QB? Boy, Quinn would be better relegated at the end of the QB depth chart based on his performance this past Sunday.
With that said, Tebow’s play was far from perfect. He still played like a rookie. He was sacked by safety Jeromy Miles on a safety blitz. It was a hard hit that was at first a fumble but later ruled an incomplete pass. Tebow has the tendency to hold on the ball too long. He paid for it with a hit courtesy of Miles. Tebow still has some of the habits he possessed in college. He still has a long wind-up before he throws and a slow follow through. For him to succeed he needs to re-tool his throwing mechanics.

One thing was evident though after the game against the Bengals; Tebow is one tough customer. His run to the endzone included a bruising run over that left Bengals safety Kyries Hebert dazed.
Bengals QB Carson Palmer was also impressed with Tebow’s touchdown run.
“It was one of those things where you knew he was going to score on the last play of the game, either run it in or throw it in there,” Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer(s) said. “He’s such a competitor. I’ve been a big fan of his ever since he started at Florida. He’s one of the greatest college football players.”
Tebow may not have the basics mastered yet but it looks like he has the intangibles to succeed in the NFL.
