Dallas Cowboys fire head coach Wade Phillips

All season the Dallas Cowboys have been under a tremendous amount of pressure to become a winning football team as the Super Bowl will be played at Cowboys Stadium this February, but despite having arguably the most talented offense in the league on paper and a lockdown defense, America’s team has fallen flat on their face every week and have lost their starting quarterback Tony Romo (broken clavicle) to injury and seen their head coach Wade Phillips get fired.

It seems like every single season Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones preaches that he will not make any drastic moves throughout the season no matter how bad things get, but as he usually does, the flamboyant owner goes back on his word and does the complete opposite.

Even if Jerry Jones really had intention to fire head coach Wade Phillips, the outspoken NFL owner would have almost certainly done just that in the offseason as people have been calling for the head coaches head all year long.

Well, just as everyone had anticipated, Jerry Jones gave Wade Phillips his walking papers this week after the embarrassing 45-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Even though I was a supporter of Wade Phillips throughout this process, this devastating loss to the Packers was enough to convince me that the team needed to move on without him.

In the meantime, offensive coordinator Jason Garrett will take over for Wade Phillips as the interim head coach, but over the years Garrett has been coveted as the next promising head coach in this league and he might just be what the doctor ordered for this struggling NFL franchise.

Obviously, at 1-7 the Dallas Cowboys are completely out of the playoff picture. Even if they were able to win the rest of the games this season, the New York Giants, Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles have the edge over the Cowboys within the NFC East division.

Needless to say, the next eight games of the NFL regular season will be nothing more than damage control for the Dallas Cowboys as they will try and get as many wins as possible while limiting injuries to key players, but have no real hope for doing anything past the end of the regular season.

Despite having no hope for the future this season the Dallas Cowboys will still get a lot of attention moving forward as everyone will be watching to see if Jason Garrett can single handedly turn this team around in his short time as their head coach.

Personally, I believe that making Garrett the head coach in Dallas was Jerry Jones’ intention the entire time and he may have done it brilliantly here as every Cowboys fan around the country has been praying for a change and they got just that.
