Is a Vincent Jackson trade still in the works?

The one position in professional football that seems to have the most volatile personalities these days is without a doubt at wide receiver. Even though the quarterback position usually is associated with the face of the franchise like Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts and sometimes even the running back gets that distinction like LaDainian Tomlinson did with the San Diego Chargers a few years back, wide receivers around the league seem to always be the players that cause problems on NFL teams every single season.

Usually you hear about Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco making headlines for doing something outrageous on or off the field, ironically both of these superstars will be playing for the Cincinnati Bengals next season, but even though T.O. and Ochocinco are always in the news, they never seem to get in trouble with the law.

The two Cincinnati Bengals wide receivers may be the exception to getting into trouble with the law, but other Pro Bowl caliber wideouts like Plaxico Burress, Santonio Holmes and most recently Vincent Jackson get into the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

The San Diego Chargers haven’t really had a dominant wide receiver in quite some
time, if ever, they have had arguably one of the best tight ends in the league with Antonio Gates, but quarterback Philip Rivers hasn’t had the downfield threat like other great quarterbacks have around the league until last season when Vincent Jackson became a force to be reckoned with in the Chargers offense.

With 1,167 yards and nine receiving touchdowns, Vincent Jackson burst on the scene last season for the San Diego Chargers, but despite finally giving Pro Bowl quarterback Philip Rivers the downfield threat he has been looking for in the offense, the wideout doesn’t come without his fair share of baggage.

Last winter, Jackson was charged with his second DUI in two years and as a result has been suspended for the first three games of the 2010-2011 season by the NFL. This is obviously something that hasn’t set well with the San Diego Chargers as they have seriously considered trading their top wide receiver, but those talks started to die off a couple of weeks ago, but they may have started up again as the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins have been mentioned as possible trade destinations.

It is no secret that the Seahawks are looking to upgrade their offense by adding another capable wide receiver alongside T.J. Houshmandzadeh, but even though Seattle could be a possible destination, the most likely landing place for Jackson would be with the Redskins.

Not only would Vincent Jackson prefer to be traded to the Washington Redskins as he has been working out and catching passes from Donovan McNabb, but the Redskins might have the most to offer the San Diego Chargers in return as they would be able to ship troubled defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to San Diego.

If a deal cannot be worked out for Haynesworth, the Redskins could offer two second-round draft picks for the wide receiver instead.

It is very uncertain up to this point whether or not the Chargers are actually still exploring the option of trading Jackson, but I believe he will be on his way out before the start of next season in one way or another.
