NFL Week 1: Cowboys @ Redskins
Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins Sun. Sept. 12th 8:20pm EST
Last season the Dallas Cowboys were finally able to somewhat live up to their high expectations as they were able to get the elusive playoff win for the first time since the mid 90s by absolutely dominating their division rivals in the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the playoffs.
Unfortunately, their playoff run didn’t go as far as they wanted it to as they ran into a brick wall in the form of Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings.

Even though they will considered to be a team that could contend with the Vikings on both sides of the football in the playoffs, Minnesota’s defensive line had quarterback Tony Romo running for his life all game long as the young QB just couldn’t get anything going on offense.
Ultimately, the Cowboys were sent packing by the Vikings, but even though there was a lot of talk about head coach Wade Phillips and Tony Romo’s job being in jeopardy, Dallas owner Jerry Jones decided to give it one more shot this season as America’s team will have their eyes on the prize this time around as it may very well be Super Bowl or bust.
With that being said, the Dallas Cowboys will head into their Week 1 showdown with the division rival Washington Redskins looking to prove that they are the team to beat in the NFC Conference. Not only will the Cowboys be showing off what will be arguably one of the best defenses in the NFL led by DeMarcus Ware, but they will also be lighting up the scoreboard with their potent offense.
Last year Tony Romo and company were pretty damn good on the offensive side of the football as wide receiver Miles Austin turned into arguably one of the best wideouts in the league, but this season they will be even better on offense with the addition of rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant (Oklahoma State).
With wide receivers Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Roy Williams at his disposal along with perennial Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten and a solid running game with running back Felix Jones and Marion Barber coming out of the backfield, Tony Romo could be poised for a career year under center.

Obviously, with teams like the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers and the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints to contend with in the NFC Conference, the Dallas Cowboys will have their work cut out for them, but could come out on top when it is all said and done as long as they can keep their team healthy.
There is no question that Week 1 will be nothing more than an extension of the preseason for the Dallas Cowboys as they will almost certainly destroy the Washington Redskins on Sunday night, but new head coach Mike Shanahan might have something up his sleeve in order to make this a close contest.
