NFL Week 1: Packers @ Eagles

Green Bay Packers @ Philadelphia Eagles Sun. Sept. 12th 4:15pm EST

Last season the Green Bay Packers took a backseat to the Minnesota Vikings as Brett Favre had a career year and was able to lead his new team to a 12-4 record and all the way to the NFC championship game against the eventual Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints. Even though Aaron Rodgers and company were playing in Brett Favre’s shadow once again, the Packers played pretty well and were able to clinch a playoff spot while finishing the season with an 11-5 record.

Unfortunately, the Packers weren’t able to get the best Kurt Warner and his Arizona Cardinals in the first round and weren’t sent home packing a little earlier than anticipated.

Coming into this NFL regular season, the Green Bay Packers could very well have one of the most well rounded teams in the league with a potent offense led by perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Aaron Rodgers and a defense led by one of the best cornerbacks in the game in reigning Defensive Player of the Year Charles Woodson.

Even though a lot of people are saying that the Minnesota Vikings and the Dallas Cowboys are the team to beat in the NFC Conference this season, the Green Bay Packers arguably the easiest schedule of any title contender in the conference and could fly under the radar this season while making a run at the NFC North division title.

Despite having one of the most favorable schedules of any prominent team in the NFC Conference this season, they will be tested right out of the gate against the new look Philadelphia Eagles who will be looking to play with a similar style compared to the Green Bay Packers.

With Donovan McNabb being traded to the division rival Washington Redskins in the offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles will now look to up and coming gunslinger Kevin Kolb to lead this offense and even though he hasn’t had much time under center, the consensus is that he could quickly become one of the best quarterbacks in this league.

Along with a potentially potent offense with Kolb at the helm, the Eagles also have one of the best defenses in the league and will be looking to prove that point by trying to stop Aaron Rodgers from having a big day in Week 1.

Even though the Eagles could be a force to be reckoned with in the NFC Conference once again this season, I believe that the Green Bay Packers are a much better team on both sides of the football and should run away with this one in the second half.

One of the things to look for in this Week 1 showdown is the pressure the Packers defense will be sending at Kevin Kolb. There is no doubt this kid has the potential to be a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback in this league, but he has the tendency to throw interceptions and that is exactly what the Green Bay secondary will be forcing him to do.
