Monday Night Football Recap: Week 6

The Titans dominate the Jaguars despite injury to Vince Young

The Tennessee Titans have been through some tough times over the past couple of seasons as they have had to deal with some changes to the roster and the emergence of players like superstar running back Chris Johnson and the up and down career of arguably one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league in Vince Young.

Fortunately, despite their struggles they have really come on strong this season with a legitimate shot of winning the division title as have won four of the first six games of the year and will look to take advantage of what looks like a down year for four-time NFL MVP quarterback Peyton Manning and the defending AFC Conference champion Indianapolis Colts.

In Week 6, the Tennessee Titans absolutely destroyed the division rival Jacksonville Jaguars as they were able to dominate from start to finish and get their fourth win of the season 30-3.

Even though beating the Jaguars by 27 points was impressive to say the least, what was the most telling part of this game and Titans dominance was the fact they were able to do it without Vince Young under center as he went down with knee injury early in the game.

It is becoming more and more common for the Tennessee Titans to use backup quarterback and veteran Kerry Collins in place of the former Texas Longhorns standout, but few people anticipated the experienced quarterback to be able to lead this team to such a dominant victory.

Obviously with superstar running back Chris Johnson coming out of the backfield, the Tennessee Titans will always have a viable offensive threat that will scare any defense, but it was uncertain whether or not he was going to be able to pick up the slack without Vince Young under center.

Fortunately, Johnson was able to do just that as he rushed for a game-high 111 yards and a touchdown. Along with Johnson’s impressive performance, Kerry Collins added 110 yards and a passing touchdown to tight end Bo Scaife on 11 of 16 passing.

Not only was this win impressive with Vince Young stuck watching from the sidelines, but it also paves the way for the Tennessee Titans continuing on their pursuit of the playoffs and the AFC South division title. Winning the AFC South may seem like a stretch as everyone is just waiting for the Indianapolis Colts to wake up and take over as they do every year, but Jeff Fisher’s squad has proven more and more with every passing week that the Titans aren’t going away and are without a doubt in the running to make a push for the postseason.

In Week 7, the Tennessee Titans will have their work cut out for them as they will be going up against the Philadelphia Eagles, but with Philly’s recent injury problems, the Titans have a solid shot of winning their third straight win.
