New York Jets get 2nd straight win in overtime over Cleveland Browns

The New York Jets came into this NFL regular season as arguably one of the best teams in the league with Super Bowl aspirations, but heading into Week 10 against the Cleveland Browns on the road, things haven’t been easy for quarterback Mark Sanchez and company as opposing teams have been giving them all they can handle week in and week out.

Fortunately, despite being shut out by the Green Bay Packers in Week 8 (9-0) and barely making it out alive in overtime against the up and coming Detroit Lions in Week 9 (23-20), the New York Jets have played as if they have something to prove this season as they have that never say die kind of attitude that has led them to victory in six of eight games so far.

Heading into Week 10, the New York Jets would have a tough task ahead of them once again as they were set to face off against one of the most promising young teams in the league in the Cleveland Browns. Even though the Browns had only won three games this season, they have been able to beat some of the best teams in the league like the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints (30-17, Week 7) and the New England Patriots (34-14, Week 9) last week.

So even though the Cleveland Browns were sporting just a 3-5 record headed into this matchup, Rex Ryan and the New York Jets knew this team wasn’t going to down without a fight and that they did as they were able to take the Gang Green into overtime for the second straight week.

With the hardnosed ground game led by up and coming running back Peyton Hillis and rookie quarterback Colt McCoy (Texas) playing better than expected, the Browns were confident that they could defend their home field and come out with the win, but the Jets weren’t going to lose this game and give up ground in the AFC East division.

The game was going back and forth all day long with both teams have a legitimate shot to get the win heading into overtime, but it was Mark Sanchez’s game-winning touchdown pass to former Super Bowl MVP wide receiver Santonio Holmes that sealed the deal with only seconds remaining in overtime 26-20.

So even though the New York Jets ultimately came away with the win and have kept the New England Patriots at bay for the time being, the Cleveland Browns have continued to prove that they are on the verge of turning the corner and becoming a dominant team in the AFC Conference in the near future.

As long as the Browns keep McCoy under center and Hillis coming out of the backfield, this Cleveland team will be threat to any opponent this season and will have high hopes of being playoff bound next season.
