2010 NBA Slam Dunk Contest: Will Blake Griffin put on a high-fly act in Los Angeles?

2010 NBA Slam Dunk Contest participants:

Serge Ibaka, Oklahoma City Thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder are one of the most promising young teams in the NBA today with a legitimate shot at becoming a title contender in the next few years. Even though the headlines are dominated by All-Stars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, the Thunder are filled with talented players that have slowly started to make a name for themselves.

The one player from the Oklahoma City Thunder that will be looking to put on a show is the high-flying forward/center Serge Ibaka. Despite everyone having their eyes on Blake Griffin during the dunk contest, Ibaka could be a dark horse to win.

During this past summer, the Washington Wizards JaVale McGee came out of nowhere to be one of the few players on the Team USA alongside players like Kevin Durant, Chauncey Billups and Lamar Odom. Even though he didn’t make the final roster, the promising young forward did make an impression and has become a household name in the nation’s capital along with rookie phenom John Wall.

At times McGee may try a little too hard to impressive his fans by going a bit over the top with some of his dunks, but there is no doubt that he is a MUST see high-fly act and might put on show this Saturday in Los Angeles.

DeMar Derozan, Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors are in the middle of a big transition phase as they lost arguably their best player in franchise history this summer when free agent All-Star forward Chris Bosh signed with the Miami Heat. Even though Bosh is now in their rearview, the Raptors do have some promising young stars like DeMar Derozan.

Not only has Derozan made Raptors fans remember the days of Vince Carter in Canada with his spectacular dunks, but he could quickly become a big-name in this league if he is able to show his fans just how talented he can be with his dunking ability.

There is no question that the Los Angeles Clippers rookie superstar Blake Griffin is the favorite to win the Slam Dunk Contest, but Derozan might give him a run for his money.

Blake Griffin, Los Angeles Clippers

Over the past decade or so, we have seen some extremely talented and entertaining rookies come into this league. Back in 2003, the NBA saw three new superstars emerge in the form of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony. Not only were these three players stars in the making, but they had the ability to entertain every single night with highlight reels galore.

Not since 2003 have we really seen a rookie that could demand attention like LeBron, D-Wade and Melo, but the Clippers’ Blake Griffin is the exception.

Not only has Griffin quickly become arguably one of the best power forward in the NBA, but he has been in the highlight reels on a nightly basis with his unbelievable eye-popping dunks.

The Slam Dunk Contest may not be what it used to be, but Griffin may be able to single handedly change that as everyone will be looking forward to see what this rookie can do.
