Peyton Manning will sit out Week 1 against Texans
The Peyton Manning injury saga continues in Indianapolis as the perennial Super Bowl title contending Colts try to figure just when they will be able to get their four-time NFL MVP quarterback back on the field this season. Throughout the entire training camp and preseason, the Indianapolis Colts were optimistic that they would have Peyton Manning under center for Week 1 against the division rival Houston Texans. Things haven’t gone as planned with the rehab from neck surgery and rehab is taking much longer than anticipated.

Reportedly, the Indianapolis Colts will be starting veteran quarterback Kerry Collins in Week 1 against the Houston Texans due to the fact that Peyton Manning has been advised not to practice or play. This comes as a major blow to the Colts as Week 1 is a big game for this team, due to the AFC South division title implications that it could have later in the year.
Not only is Week 1 a big concern for the Indianapolis Colts, but Peyton Manning’s offseason neck surgery may end up costing him the entire NFL regular season. This is pretty devastating news to a franchise that completely depends on their superstar quarterback to lead the team every single week, but what is even more devastating to the future of the franchise is the fact that this may end Manning’s career in the NFL altogether.
Even though most fans believe that a neck injury isn’t all that serious when you see NFL players getting their careers ended by serious knee injuries, this neck injury/rehab has become serious due to the fact that is just isn’t healing like it is supposed to and with all the movements with his neck at the line of scrimmage the quarterback’s play would be completely transformed.
Along with not being able to play in the season opener for the Indianapolis Colts, sitting out Week 1 will also end Peyton Manning’s consecutive start streak at 227 games. This streak was extremely impressive as he hadn’t missed a game as the Colts’ starting quarterback since 1998. Not only will this end one of the best streaks in NFL history, but Peyton Manning was the only active player in the NFL that was even close to jeopardizing the unbelievable start streak of NFL legend Brett Favre who ended his career last season at 297 consecutive starts.

It is a shame that it had to come to an end for Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts, but now the focus will be on getting the perennial Pro Bowler back to health and back on the gridiron. Without Manning under center for the Colts, many people are predicting that the team might not even win eight games this season and will almost certainly miss the playoffs along with a chance to win the AFC South division title.
