NFL Week 7: San Diego Chargers @ New York J Jets

San Diego Chargers @ New York Jets Sun. Oct. 23, 2011 1 p.m. EST

After two straight appearances in the AFC Championship game, the New York Jets have been dubbed one of the best teams in the NFL and for good reason with Darrelle Revis and company having a top notch defense that can contain a potent offense on any given Sunday. With all the right pieces of the puzzle coming together heading into this NFL regular season, the Jets were considered to be a legitimate Super Bowl title contender once again, but they haven’t really turned any heads this season and look like they might have to settle for the AFC Wild Card to get back into the postseason.

The New York Jets are coming off an impressive win over the division rival Miami Dolphins, but that really isn’t saying much this season as the Dolphins could be the worst team in the NFL. With an extremely impressive performance out of Darrelle Revis (2 INTs, 1 TD), the Jets defense seems to be back on track and ready to compete with the best of the best in the NFL, but the offense still needs work with quarterback Mark Sanchez struggling under center.

In Week 7, the New York Jets will be challenged once again in a classic battle between a lockdown defense and a potent offense. The Jets may be playing at home this weekend, but they will have to compete with a very good San Diego Chargers football team looking to become one of the league’s elite teams this season.

Much like the New York Jets situation in the AFC East division with the New England Patriots (5-1) firing on all cylinders and the Buffalo Bills (4-2) becoming a legitimate force to be reckoned with, the San Diego Chargers (4-1) no longer have it easy in the AFC West division with the Oakland Raiders (4-2) emerging as one of the best teams in the NFL. Not only have the Raiders finally gotten back on track as a legitimate playoff contender, but they just acquired veteran quarterback Carson Palmer from the Cincinnati Bengals.

With the Oakland Raiders now having a proven quarterback under center and arguably the best running back in the game with Darren McFadden coming out of the backfield, the San Diego Chargers finally have a tough competitor within the AFC West division and will need to win every game in divisional play as well as outside of their division just to make it into the playoffs.

As of right now, the San Diego Chargers are favored to come out on top in this AFC heavyweight showdown with a -2 point spread. This game will definitely be a close one with the potential of either team coming out on top, but the Chargers would be the safe bet here considering how well they have played this season.

Take the Chargers at -2.
