Could Plaxico Burress turn into the favorite target for Mark Sanchez?
The last two seasons have been pretty exciting for the New York Jets as they have made it the way to the AFC Conference Championship game two years in row. Even though the New York Jets were unable to get past the Indianapolis Colts and the Pittsburgh Steelers in two consecutive seasons in order to reach the Super Bowl and live up to head coach Rex Ryan’s high expectations, this team is without a doubt one of the best all-around teams in the league and perennial Super Bowl title contenders.

This year Rex Ryan and the New York Jets have rolled the dice once again by going with some veteran wide receivers to play across from former Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes. Last season the Jets had one of the best receiving corps in the league with Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards, but this time around they chose to re-sign Holmes to a lucrative five-year deal and let Edwards explore other options.
This move to let Braylon Edwards go and hold onto Santonio Holmes wasn’t as criticized as expected and might ultimately turn out to be the right choice, especially after acquiring veterans Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason at a discount price for the short term. With Edwards signing with the San Francisco 49ers, the Jets went out and sign Burress and Mason to fill the void.
There is no question that Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason are no longer the young and talented wide receivers they used to be with the New York Giants and the Baltimore Ravens, but they might be the missing pieces to the puzzle in order to transform Mark Sanchez into an elite quarterback in the NFL.
With question marks surrounding both of these veteran wideouts and whether or not they can really help this Super Bowl title contender reach the next level this season, the New York Jets will be under tremendous pressure to win for the third season in a row under Rex Ryan, but they seem to be up to the task.
All eyes will be on Plaxico Burress this season as many people don’t know what to expect from the veteran wide receiver that was recently released from prison. With two seasons missed, there is no telling whether or not Burress is the same downfield threat he once was with the Giants, but the Jets are willing to gamble and give him a shot.

So far, so good for Plaxico Burress and the New York Jets as he seems to be striking up some solid chemistry with quarterback Mark Sanchez. In last week’s preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Plaxico Burress scored his first touchdown for the Jets off a 26-yard pass from Mark Sanchez. The touchdown grab might be an indication of things to come for New York this season as Burress looked like he had his timing back and is ready to become Sanchez’s favorite target in the passing offense.
