Three teams in the AFC North are playoff bound

The NFL playoffs are officially underway as all 12 teams set and ready to battle it out for a chance to be Super Bowl champions. Even though there are plenty of teams to talk about in this playoff race for the Super Bowl, perhaps some of the most compelling all come out of the very competitive AFC North division.

Over the past decade or so, the AFC North has been without a doubt one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL. With the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals usually being the three teams battling it out for the division title, any team can come out on top and most of the time two or more teams make it into the playoffs.

This time around, the Ravens, Steelers and Bengals have all become playoff bound with Baltimore playing like a legitimate Super Bowl title contender after winning the AFC North division title with a perfect 6-0 record. Even though the Ravens seem like the cream of the crop in the division, the Steelers and the Bengals have played extremely well this season and have been able to punch their ticket into the playoffs as well with a potentially AFC North divisional battle at some point in the playoffs.

The Baltimore Ravens may have an impressive 12-4 record heading into the playoffs and are getting a lot of Super Bowl buzz, but they have been arguably one of the streakiest elite teams in the league this season with unpredictable outcomes every single week. There is no question that this team has a great chance to win a Super Bowl title this season, but they have had trouble playing consistently well this year.

Fortunately for Jim Harbaugh and company, the Baltimore Ravens have a first-round bye and will be able to get one week of rest and preparation in before taking the field for the first time in the playoffs.

Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4)

Coming into this NFL regular season, a lot of NFL analysts started to write off the defending AFC Conference champion Pittsburgh Steelers as a team that could be on the verging of a losing season. With a lot of aging players in key positions on both sides of the football, the consensus was that the Steelers would not be a force to be reckoned with this season.

Even though at times the Steelers have looked old and past their prime, Pittsburgh remains one of the elite teams in the NFL and will be looking to make easy work of the AFC West division champion Denver Broncos in the AFC Wild-Card game this Sunday in the Mile High City.

And finally we have the up-and-coming Cincinnati Bengals who were considered to be at the beginning of an extensive rebuilding process, but have somehow become one of the most talented young teams in the league with rookies Andy Dalton and A.J. Green leading the way.

The Cincinnati Bengals will take on the Houston Texans in the first round.
