NFL Week 3: Cowboys @ Texans

The Houston Texans have only been in existence in the NFL for eight years now and even though they have had some talented players come and go, they haven’t been able to compete with the best of the best in the league or within the AFC South division for that matter.

This season the Texans were a popular pick to make the playoffs, which would be the first time e first in franchise history, but it wasn’t going to be easy to start the season as they had to face the division rival Indianapolis Colts right out of the gate and Donovan McNabb’s revamped Washington Redskins just a week later. Even though the odds were against them against both the Colts and the Redskins in the first two weeks of the season, Matt Schaub and company put up one hell of a fight and beat the odds in consecutive weeks.

In Week 3, the competition doesn’t get any easier as the Houston Texans will go head to head against the Dallas Cowboys in the battle for Texas.

Even though the Dallas Cowboys were considered Super Bowl title contenders coming into this NFL regular season, they have really struggled to get going this year as they have lost the first two games of the season to the division rival Washington Redskins and Jay Cutler’s Chicago Bears.

There was no question that the Cowboys were one of the most talented teams on both sides of the football this season, but for some reason they just haven’t been able to get anything going. Tony Romo has played relatively well in the first two games, but the ground game has been completely ineffective as running backs Felix Jones and Marion Barber has been a nonfactor.

With the Houston Texans not being known for their defense, the Dallas Cowboys will have an opportunity to finally get things going on offense, but it could be argued that the Texans have arguably the best offense in the league this season with quarterback Matt Schaub throwing for 604 yards and four touchdowns in just two games while up and coming running back Arian Foster has also put up big numbers with 376 total yards (300 rushing, 76 receiving) and three touchdowns.

There is no doubt about it, the Dallas Cowboys will have their work cut out for them if they expect to win their first game of the season, but one thing is for sure, this battle for Texas will be as entertaining as they come and arguably the game of the week.

As of right now, the Houston Texans are favored to come out on top with -2.5 point spread, but even though I believe that Matt Schaub and company will be playoff bound this season and a serious force to be reckoned in the AFC Conference, I see the Dallas Cowboys getting their first win of the season in Week 3.
