NFL Week 4: Texans @ Raiders

Houston Texans @ Oakland Raiders Sun. Oct. 3rd 4:05pm EST

Over the past eight years, the Houston Texans have had the distinction as being the newest team in the NFL and saddled with the frustration of trying to build a winning football team starting from absolutely nothing.

Even though most teams tend to fail year after year while trying to contend with the best of the best in any league as an expansion team, the Houston Texans have done pretty well in such a short time as they have arguably one of the best offenses in the NFL led by perennial Pro Bowlers Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson.

Not only do the Houston Texans have one of the best air attacks in the league with quarterback Matt Schaub under center and arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL in Andre Johnson, but they have gotten off to hot start this season by beating the AFC South division rival Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Redskins in consecutive weeks.

Unfortunately, the Houston Texans weren’t unable to stay undefeated after Week 3 as they were handed their first loss of the season by the Dallas Cowboys, but they are still considered to be one of the best teams in the league right now with a great shot of clinching their first playoff spot in franchise history.

Even though the first three weeks of the season were full of tough opponents, Week 4 will be somewhat of a week off for Matt Schaub and company as they will head to Oakland to take on the 1-2 Raiders at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

As of right now, the Texans are favored to come out on top in this matchup with -3 point spread, but even though I believe the Raiders will get better and better with every passing, this will be a great opportunity for Houston to get back on track after the loss to the Cowboys last week.

The one thing that the Texans might struggle with in this game against the Raiders will be with their passing game as Oakland has the second best defense in the league against the pass by holding opposing quarterbacks to just 127.7 passing yards a game. With that being said, Houston might go to the ground game like they did in week one against the Indianapolis Colts when up and coming running back Arian Foster had a breakout performance by rushing for 231 yards and three touchdowns.

If Foster can have anything close to the kind of performance he had against the division rival Colts, the Texans will have a great shot at winning their third game of the season and maintaining first place in the AFC South division.

As for the Oakland Raiders, they will almost certainly continue to struggle as they try and find an answer at the quarterback position. The Raiders are a good team and they are on the way up in my opinion, but they still have a lot of work to do.
