Pro Bowl running back Arian Foster reinjures hamstring

Last year the Houston Texans surprised everyone in the first few weeks with of the football season as they looked like they were playoff bound and were ready to dethrone the Indianapolis Colts as AFC South division champions. The one player that helped with his drastic turnaround was up-and-coming running back Arian Foster who quickly became one of the best players at his position in the NFL and earned a Pro Bowl appearance for his efforts.

Unfortunately, despite seemingly turning their struggling young franchise around, the Texans were unable to keep up their winning ways and as a result missed the playoffs. Even though they missed out an opportunity to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, the Texans will come into the upcoming NFL regular season with high hopes of getting back on track and competing for the AFC South division title.

A lot of NFL analysts and football fans believe this could be the year the Houston Texans turn the corner and finally become that perennial playoff contender, but the team may have hit a bit of a bump in the road with Arian Foster suffering a hamstring injury for the second time during training camp and the NFL preseason.

Fortunately, the hamstring injury isn’t being classed as something devastating to Foster’s chances of starting at the running back position in Week 1 against the division rival Indianapolis Colts. Last season Week 1 against the Colts was Foster’s coming out party as he dominated the Indianapolis secondary by rushing for 231 yards and three touchdowns. Some people believed this was nothing more than a fluke by the unknown running back, but it was just the beginning of things to come as Arian Foster went on to lead the league in rushing yards with 1,616 yards.

This season the Houston Texans will be hoping to get more of the same out of Arian Foster, but this hamstring injury could become something that might never go away this year and could result in the up-and-coming running back missing some time on the gridiron.

Reportedly, Arian Foster is calling his most recent hamstring injury “mild” and nothing to worry about, but the Houston Texans are thinking differently as they are saying that their starting running back is questionable for the upcoming preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings and possibly questionable for Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts.

The consensus is that the Houston Texans will most likely keep Arian Foster out of the preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings this Thursday night, but obviously the main concern is for Week 1. If the injury continues to bother him, the Texans could sit Foster for Week 1 and this injury could be something that might hinder his second season in the spotlight.

It still remains to be seen how serious this hamstring injury is for Arian Foster, but considering the fact that this is the second time his has tweaked over a matter of a few weeks this can’t be a good sign moving forward.
